FANS of German beer braved poor weather to make the first ever Skiptoberfest a huge success.

"Over 1,200 people attended the event where we had 9,000 pints of German beer on tap," said Richard Bradley, one of the organisers. "Many locals dressed up in their lederhosen and dirndl and danced along to our oompah band."

The weekend started with a Friday afternoon corporate session which was attended by over 200 local business people, who had unrestricted beer and food.

The three public sessions were a huge success even with the torrential rain on Saturday.

Locals enjoyed Keltenberg, Warsteinner and Konig Weiss beer along with fruit cider and Prosecco.

Each beer was served in a traditional two pint stein. There was also bratwurst and pretzels served by Ilkley Caterers.

Over the weekend, the event over £4,000 for Martin House Hospice.

Mr Bradley said: "We will be back next year with the same event and hope that Skipton will again come and support us."
