WORK is set to begin on the refurbishment of Hall Street car park, in Cross Hills, as part of plans to improve the village centre.

Craven District Council’s contractors will start on site on Monday, November 13, and the work is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.

The scheme includes the resurfacing and white lining of the car park, extending the area next to the toilets allowing for the creation of public space to soften the appearance of the village centre and the resurfacing of part of Hall Street.

The car park and the pedestrian access along the side of the car park to South Craven School will be closed while the works are being carried out.

David Smurthwaite, Craven District Council’s Strategic Manager, said: “We are working with retailers and Glusburn and Cross Hills parish council to deliver a series of actions aimed at improving the Main Street area.

"This is part of our overall vision to make Cross Hills village centre a more attractive, friendly and safe village for residents and visitors alike.

“We consulted residents and businesses on these plans and took into account their views on how the village centre could be improved. When this work is completed, it will provide more parking spaces for visitors and shoppers, and improve the appearance of the village centre.”

As part of the work involves resurfacing around the entrance to the toilet block, the toilets will be closed for one week, from Monday, November 13.

The resurfacing of Hall Street is scheduled to take place during the week beginning November 27. The road will need to be closed to all traffic for five days while this work is carried out.
