A SOLICITOR specialising in rights of way and national parks is due to talk at Monday's (November 13) meeting in Grassington of the Upper Wharfedale Field Society.

Jerry Pearlman, author of Tales from an Environmental and Tribal Lawyer, will focus his talk on particular individuals and their campaigns, including Keith Locker, and his fight for Grassington Moor, and Bob Leakey, his eccentricity and his battle for a footpath by the side of Buckaw Brow. Mr Pearlman will also talk about William Bunting and his various battles, including the saving of Thorne Waste.

Mr Pearlman, who has worked on cases with both national and international importance, was a member of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a former vice chairman. He is an honorary vice president of The Ramblers, a parish councillor, and chairman of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Access Forum.

After 60 year in the legal practice based in Leeds, he has a host of tales, focusing on environmental cases leading to decisions that have either extended or safeguarded the public's rights in the countryside.

The talk will take place at the Octagon Theatre, Grassington Town Hall, on Monday, November 13 at 7.30pm. Free to members, £3 for non members, including light refreshments.
