A NEW activity pack has been launched for young rail travellers on the Bentham Line.

The free pack – aimed at children under 12 – includes information about the line, a colouring competition and tests of observational skills.

The Bentham Line follows a route between Leeds and Morecambe, including Keighley.

Behind the latest initiative is the Leeds-Morecambe Community Rail Partnership (CRP).

Support was provided by Northern, and the Association of Community Rail Partnerships gave a £1,000 grant towards printing and assembly costs.

CRP chairman, Gerald Townson, said: “This is the first educational activity pack to be produced specifically for use on a community rail line.

“Hopefully it will encourage our younger passengers to have a better understanding of the railway, our line and the beautiful surrounding areas.”

The pack is available from Keighley railway station’s ticket and information office and volunteers are distributing it on Bentham Line services.

It can also be obtained by post from the CRP, Bentham Station Building, Station Road, Bentham, Lancaster LA2 7LF.

And elements are downloadable at leedslancastermorecambecrp.co.uk.
