LOCAL morris group The Flagcrackers of Craven will be taking to the streets of Skipton on Saturday to showcase the fun of dancing or playing for them and inviting people to try it for themselves.

The team will be hoping to attract some new members by dancing at different venues to the usual tourist spots where they are generally seen at Easter, the start of the dance out season.

Julie Greenwood, Squire of the Flagcrackers, said:  “We’ll be dancing where the locals will be on a November Saturday; outside places like Keelham Farm Shop, Morrisons and Tescos. We’ll also be visiting a few alehouses too, of course, including The Castle.”

Highlighting the health and fitness benefits of dancing as well as the social aspects, the Flagcrackers will be doing a few display dances, distributing literature, chatting to people and answering questions about the tradition of morris and The Flagcrackers of Craven’s typical summer itinerary of festivals and events.

The Flagcrackers are now in their 29th year entertaining the public locally and at festivals around the UK and abroad.

Julie said: “Having fun is what it’s all about. We are always looking for new members as we are invited to dance at events all over the country and need a number of dancers and musicians each time.  The more members we have, the larger the pool of people, which means we can accept more bookings without everyone having to commit to every event.”  More information about the Flagcrackers can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Flagcrackers or www.flagcrackers.co.uk
