FIVE fire crews were called to a mill in Cononley this afternoon after a roof caught fire.
Fire engines from Keighley and Skipton were among those summoned at about 3pm after the fire was reported at the unoccupied mill near Cononley railway station.
The Keighley crew were on standby in the village while others acted quickly to extinguish the blaze before it could take hold.
A spokesman for Keighley Fire Station said: “It was a small fire in the roof, but there was the potential for a serious fire if it spread to the rest of the mill.
“For the crews that initially arrived the main focus was to put water on the fire as soon as possible.”
An aerial ladder was summoned so that firefighters could look inside the roof and ensure the fire was completely out.
