CONONLEY’S David Brewer again ruled the roost when presenting the champion trio of Rhode Island Reds - a cockerel and two pullets, all 2017-born - at the Craven Feather Auctions Christmas show of poultry and waterfowl staged at Skipton Auction Mart.

The 20-year-old, who is studying primary education at Leeds Beckett University, was repeating his championship-winning success at the previous show in September, then with a trio of White Silkies.

He has now won three Craven Feather Auctions championships, with his latest title winners, the first prize large fowl, selling for £55.

Sid Moore, of Newton-le-Willows, Bedale, was reserve champion with the first prize pen of waterfowl, a trio of 2016 Trout Indian Runner Ducks, sold for £34, while Derbyshire breeder David Pownall, of Old Glossop, was responsible for the first prize bantams, a pair of 2017 White Wyandottes, which made £40.

A much larger turnout of 269 poultry lots produced joint top prices of £70 for Wyandotte and Light Sussex trios. Show judge was Tim Metcalfe, of Clayton, Bradford.
