LOVED ones were remembered at a special service in Skipton held to support Martin House hospice.

More than 80 people attended the 'Light up a Life' service at Holy Trinity Church, which was led by the church's rector, the Rev Veronica James.

And there were musical performances from Skipton's Rock Up and Sing choir and Skipton Brass Band.

The service also included the lighting of the Christmas tree, while each person attending was given a candle which was lit during the service.

Veronica James said: “The annual service here at Holy Trinity in Skipton gives those who support the charity by fundraising for Martin House along with the families, the opportunity to come together and share in this beautiful church.”

Light up a Life is a chance for people to make a dedication in memory of a loved one, in return for giving a donation to Martin House, in Boston Spa near Wetherby. The names appear in a Book of Dedication, which is on display at Holy Trinity until January 6, the 12th day of Christmas.

There is also a 'virtual tree of lights' on the Martin House website, and dedications made online appear there, as well as in the Books of Dedication.
