INSPIRATIONAL Olympic diver Rebecca Gallantree worked out with Cowling Primary School pupils promoting healthy lifestyles and helping raise funds for both school sport and the British Olympic Team.

Children in all classes had the opportunity to complete a series of high intensity exercises during a series of circuits with Rebecca and her 'Sportivator' Jay who encouraged the children to give their best, to keep going and to be very loud.

After the workout Rebecca spoke about her achievements and encouraged pupils to aim high and see what they could achieve when they really tried. She showed pupils her Olympic gold medal and spoke about how important it is to persevere and to keep on going even when things are difficult. In a motivational assembly Rebecca showed clips of her competitive dives, spoke about diving with Tom Daley and demonstrated a fantastic back flip. She also encouraged pupils to find something they loved and to see just how much they could achieve when they really tried.

Cowling families sponsored their children to work out with the Olympian and the sporty school raised a total of £1,570. These funds will be split between the British Olympic Team and school where it will be used to buy resources to support primary sport. All participating children will receive sports wrist bands while pupils who raised over £30 receive signed wrist bands and posters.

Headteacher of the Gill Lane school, Sue Marshall said: “I was really impressed with all our children who all kept going even though it was pretty tiring. After the workout with Rebecca some of our boys continued working out in the playground at lunchtime which is fantastic."

She added: “Thank you to all our families for supporting the initiative and raising funds for the British Team and school sport. It is very much appreciated.”
