A DECISION to refuse building three houses on a small field in Earby has been upheld on appeal.
Applicant Graham Walker submitted the appeal after the West Craven Area Committee refused him permission to build the three homes on land off Gaylands Lane, Earby, in July.
Councillors said the design would have a detrimental impact on the Earby Conservation Area and would not integrate with the adjoining open countryside.
Pendle Council’s Development Management Committee upheld the refusal.
In the appeal decision, planning inspector Darren Hendley wrote: “The proposal would fail to preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Conservation Area.
“The harm to the significance of the heritage asset would not be outweighed by the benefits. Harm would arise to the character and appearance of the open countryside itself. Accordingly, I conclude the appeal should be dismissed.”
