FIFTEEN budding engineers at West Craven High School learned about life working for one of the world’s best known companies – Rolls-Royce.

Adam Burrows, senior manager at Rolls-Royce’s Ghyll Brow site in Barnoldswick and Megan Wilcock, who works in the Rolls-Royce laboratory, visited West Craven to speak to the enthusiastic engineering students.

The session was arranged by Peter Elgie, a volunteer teaching assistant at West Craven who previously worked for Rolls-Royce.

The Year 11 students heard about the manufacturing of wide chord fan blades at Rolls-Royce in Barnoldswick and the intensive checks on the build quality that take place.

They also learned about the power systems for air, land and sea that are manufactured worldwide by Rolls-Royce.

Adam and Megan told the students how they came into the field of engineering, and gave advice on what employers are looking for in apprentices.

Plans are being put in place for the 15 students to visit the Rolls-Royce site in Barnoldswick to see for themselves.

Student Kieran Cunningham said: “It was very informative, it has inspired me to work hard to achieve at the top level of engineering.”
