THE developer behind refused plans to build a total of 25 new homes at the edge of Giggleswick has appealed to the government’s Planning Inspectorate.
In December last year, Burley Developments’ two separate outline applications to build on two plots on land off Raines Road were refused by Craven District Council. A scheme to build up to 12 properties to the west of Raines Road and east of Brackenber Lane, was recommended for approval by planning officers, but turned down by councillors. A slightly larger scheme for up to 13 new homes to the west of Raines Road and to the East of Brackenber Lane, recommended for refusal by officers, was also turned down by the council’s planning committee. Both applications were strongly opposed by Giggleswick Parish Council, and Settle ward councillor Richard Welch, and turned down because of the impact on the character of the surrounding countryside.
