SKIPTON fundraisers are due to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks in May in support of Manorlands Hospice.

Kim Jansen and Michelle Vann both have close relatives who were cared for at the Sue Ryder hospice in Oxenhope or by community nurses and will be doing the challenge in their memory.

Kim lost her mum, Ceri in September last year, while Michelle's dad, Mark Lawson, died nine years ago, and her mum, Janis Lawson died in 2016.

Both Kim and Michelle will be walking and climbing Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough on Sunday May 13 - a distance of 25 miles and a climb of 5,000ft.

Those wanting to take on the challenge, which will start in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, must be fit and able to complete the three peaks in under 12 hours.

Helping to organise the Manorlands fundraiser will be other members of the Skipton support group, Louise Head, Jenny Baron, Anna Simkins, Kelly Smith. Liga Morris and Jennette Marshall.

Louise's dad, Peter Head, also died at Manorlands five years ago.

Molly Ralphson, community fundraiser, said: "Talking to the group about the care they received from Manorlands at such difficult times in their lives really shows just how important the hospice is. We need to raise £2.3 million in 2018-19 to continue our specialist care as we only receive £1.1 million in statutory funding. The Skipton fundraising group are a new group of volunteers who are helping to fundraise for the hospice and the 3 Peaks event looks like it’s going to be a great day out”.

The event is open to anyone who can attempt to walk the circular route from Horton-in-Ribblesdale in under 12 hours. Checkpoints and refreshments will be provided and the walk will be stewarded by qualified mountain leaders. To enter online, visit: sueryder.org/3peaks
