A SILSDEN community centre has unveiled a packed programme of activities for all ages during the spring.

The Hive – formerly the Silsden Youth and Community Centre on Elliott Street – is organising movies, parties, competitions and other community events throughout 2018.

This month the venue has already hosted the annual choosing of the Silsden Gala king, queen and rosebud.

The Silver Bees, a group for older people, is laying on a movie afternoon on Friday, March 16, a ‘crafternoon’ on April 20, a speaker on May 18, and a tea dance on June 15.

Bees are also on the agenda for children as animated film The Bee Movie is screened on April 7. There will be another children’s film on June 2.

The Hive is hosting a Royal Wedding party on May 19, a children’s Halloween party on October 27, and a children’s Christmas party on December 8.

Also coming up as an over-18s a psychic evening on April 28, the “Great Get Together” treasure hunt on June 23, a Silsden’s Got Talent for over-18s on September 22, and fireworks fun on November 2.

Children can make a Father’s Day gift on June 16.

The Hive is managed by Silsden Youth Community Interest Company, a non-profit organisation who took over the building from Bradford Council in April 2016 to avoid its closure.

The volunteer team held a German Christmas market last December to mark the end of a successful year, announcing at the time that they planned to “do much more” for the community in 2018 and beyond.

Since the Community Interest Company took over, the number of local people using it has increased.
