A GROUP of artists in Settle is planning the launch of an arts trail in the early summer.

It follows the cancellation of the annual North Yorkshire Open Studios event which it was recently announced will not take place this year.

The new Three Peaks Arts will see artists from Ingleton and Ribblehead to Horton-in-Ribblesdale and Settle opening up their studios to the public.

Further exhibitions and workshops are planned in other spaces in the area. The trail will involve studios being open to the public over two weekends, the last weekend in June and on July 7 and Sunday 8.

There will be a trail map available at galleries, shops and information centres. The map will also list all the workshop activities taking place. A Three Peaks Arts website is due to go live in the near future.

A statement on the North Yorkshire Open Studios website states that the event - which has run for 12 years - will not take place this year.

"Chrysalis Arts recently undertook a review and evaluation of North Yorkshire Open Studios and in consultation with Arts Council England, the Chrysalis Arts Board made the decision to discontinue NYOS in its current form. This decision was not taken lightly and is mainly due to the increased risk to the company following cuts in local authority funding."

The statement continued that Chrysalis Arts was now working with artists with a possible event taking place next year.
