KETTLEWELL Village Hall won two accolades for its brand new toilets in the National Loo of the Year Awards.

Far from going for the ‘bog basic’ standards, the loos were renovated in 2017 to the highest specification on a limited budget to win the Platinum Grade award and also the national award for Community Centre Loo of the Year.

The complete revamp of the washroom facilities included an exterior extension, high specification fittings, tasteful décor and the creation of a large, unisex baby changing room, WC and shower, suitable for the disabled.

The project was supported by a variety of grants and match funding schemes, as well as funds from Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival.

The building work was carried out by Andrew Cartwright and the plumbing by Gary Fox.

Clifford Lambert, from Kettlewell Village Hall committee and his wife Barbara, received the awards at the prestigious event in Birmingham.

Mr Lambert said: “From coffee mornings to parties to wedding receptions, Kettlewell Village Hall, which featured in Calendar Girls, is a popular and versatile venue for all occasions. So instead of simply giving the loos a facelift, we decided to go for the very best facilities we could, in terms of specification and accessibility. Naturally we’re very proud to have been recognised in these prestigious awards and we couldn’t keep them looking so good without our hard working village hall caretaker, Heather!”
