EFFORTS by a Silsden voluntary group to improve life for older people have been highlighted to local councillors.

Keighley Area Committee heard about the activities of the Later Life Cobbydale Group/Network since it was set up in 2016.

The group, made up of local volunteers and representatives from local agencies, receives support from Silsden and Steeton Medical Practice, which also provides meeting space.

The group has forged links with local churches and faith groups, care homes, Carers Support, Stroke Survivors and Carers, the Embrace Project, and charities such as Age UK and that Dementia Friendly Communities.

The Later Life Cobbydale’s local trailblazing directory, featuring a wealth of information about local services and activities for older people, became a huge success.

It was so successful that the model was adopted by groups in the Worth Valley, who went on to publish Get Connected using a similar format.

The council spokesman said: “This has been a great achievement for a small group and a very well done to all the volunteers involved.”
