FANS of Channel Five's All New Traffic Cops show need to look out for Craven's own Tc Andrew Ingram when the show returns to our screens next month. The popular programme follows Yorkshire traffic officers as they go about their business, and for the last several weeks, its been the turn of Craven. Tc Ingram, known amongst his colleagues as being 'tenacious' to say the very least, has been shadowed by a camera man and fitted with microphones, as he has carried out his duties. The camera has been with him at all times, apart from when he has been in court, giving evidence, and by the sound of it, there ought to be some interesting viewing coming up. It being a very rural beat, Tc Ingram has been engaged in chasing an alleged poacher with a ferret, in fields opposite Keelham Farm Shop; and on another occasion was involved in a chase involving colleagues from across the border. Several drivers have also been stopped on suspicion of drugs driving too. Tc Ingram tells me it will be good to see Craven featuring on the programme.

THE DVD release date of blockbuster Star Wars: The Last Jedi was marked at Skipton Tesco with a line up of all your favourite Star Wars characters, gamely recreated by, Karen Gill, Ed Chafer, Harriet Chafer and Andrew Hodkinson (pictured).

AND, on the subject of Tesco, the store's community champion, Dean Majors, is about to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Dean, who in another life used to be a chef, got himself slimmed down by joining Slimming World in Skipton, and will be taking on the Three Peaks Challenge on May 13 along with Sarah Rishworth and Slimming World colleagues (pictured). The team are tackling Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, and can be supported in their efforts by donating at Tesco, or via Facebook. Dean has been busy putting in hills and stamina practice over the last few weeks by walking around Yorkshire Water reservoirs, and on one day last week, climbing Pendle Hill twice, in the same day - that ought to hold him in good stead.

PUBLICANS in Craven will be hoping to pull in votes as well as pints as they go head to head in Yorkshire's Favourite Pub competition.

The annual contest, run by Welcome to Yorkshire in partnership with the Yorkshire Post, invites members of the public to vote for their favourite pub – and competition is fierce, as last year a total of 700 pubs were nominated.

The list of nominees is then put to a panel of judges to whittle down to a shortlist.

The panel’s top 30 pubs will feature in Welcome to Yorkshire’s Ale Trail, before members of the public get the chance to vote for the overall winner.

A record 18,500 people voted in last year’s competition, which saw The White Swan in Ampleforth crowned winners at Welcome to Yorkshire’s stand at the Great Yorkshire Show in July. Skipton's own Woolly Sheep is also a previous winner.

Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “This is always a closely-fought battle because there are so many potential worthy winners here in Yorkshire. We’re lucky to have some truly fantastic pubs boasting great beer, incredible food, and a welcoming atmosphere that brings communities and visitors together."

People have until Thursday, May 17 to vote, and the winning pub and two runners up will be announced at the Great Yorkshire Show on Tuesday, July 10.

WHILE the weather might not have made up its mind completely yet, there's a definite feeling of spring in the air - I for one, have seen more than one hare taking off across fields, and have even been fortunate enough to see two 'boxing'. On a recent walk near Hellifield, I also saw two weasels so intent on each other they completely ignored me - and what a racket they made too. Over in the Forest of Bowland, there is a lot to look our for in the Festival Bowland, which is packed with wildlife events from now until early May. On April 28, there will be a chance to join the RSPB on a moorland walk setting off from Slaidburn to spot upland birds. There are also other walks looking out for lapwings and hares (brown hare pictured by C Camm), as well as wildflowers, birds and insects.

FOLLOWING on from postings on social media of a picture by Fred Rhodes of a terrapin in Skipton Castle Woods, there have been plenty of visitors to the woods according to the Woodland Trust, which has now posted a picture of two terrapins, again taken by Fred (pictured). The UK climate is too cold for terrapins to breed, but they can live to a ripe old age of around 30. This pair is believed to have been around since the 80s, from the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles craze, when parents bought terrapins for their children before 'releasing' them into the canal when the children got fed up with them.

INTERESTINGLY, a colleague in the office tells me he attempted to 'release' a particularly unfriendly hamster into the wild, only to be ordered by his wife to go back and find it. He returned with the hamster which then went on to reach a fine old age. Another colleague tells me her son buried his much loved hamster in a shoebox in a nearby field, and several weeks later when out with the dog was horrified when the dog proudly presented him with its mummified remains - he evidently had not buried it deeply enough.
