CASTLEBERG Hospital, Giggleswick, could be closed permanently following a meeting due to take place in Settle early next month.

The decision on the future of community care services in Craven, which includes the future of the ten bed hospital, will be made on Tuesday, May 8 at a meeting of the NHS Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) governors.

It is not a public meeting, but people will be allowed to attend, and to submit questions ahead of time.

Papers, including a recommended course of action, will be published on the CCG's website on Friday, May 4 - following the local council elections.

Anyone wanting to ask a question, is being urged to look through the papers first - to make sure the information they want is not already covered.

Castleberg Hospital was closed a year ago because of safety concerns following ongoing issues with the power supply, heating and drainage at the ten-bed Giggleswick site.

The CCG has been running a consultation on the future of health care services in Craven, which includes the future of the hospital, from November last year, to the end of February. Around 1,600 people responded to the consultation.

The consultation considered two options - to continue to provide inpatient care in the community and to repair and restore Castleberg Hospital; or to close Castleberg and provide an enhanced range of care in people’s homes or in an alternative community setting.

Governors of the Bradford City and Bradford Districts CCGs will also be part of the meeting on May 8, but are due to join it after the decision on future health care in Craven, to continue with the rest of the agenda.

The meeting on May 8 will take place at St John's Church and Hall, Church Street, Settle at 1.15pm. Questions - which need to be submitted by Monday (May 7) - can be submitted in writing by email to stacey.waterworth@bradford.nhs.uk or by post to Stacey Waterworth, Governance and Corporate Manager, NHS Bradford District and Craven CCGs, Douglas Mill, Bowling Old Lane, Bradford, BD5 7JR.

The meeting will also be filmed and a video shared on the CCGs’ website after the event.

Papers for the meeting will be available on May 4 at: bradfordccg.moderngov.co.uk/ieListMeetings.aspx?CommitteeId=181
