A RETIRING Steeton vicar has taken her final service – and it was very much a family affair.
St Stephen’s Church was packed on Sunday for the communion service and farewell to the Rev Jenny Savage.
She was joined by her daughter and fellow reverend, Lucy – who gave a sermon reflecting on her mother’s 19 years of ordination – and son Robert, who played the organ.
The congregation included members of the Rev Savage’s former churches.
Following the service there was a buffet lunch, and the Rev Savage – who has been vicar at Steeton for five years – was presented with a card and gifts and a cake was cut.
A church spokesman said: “Jenny has been a great leader at St Stephen’s, both spiritually and practically.
“Her enthusiasm and commitment have been inspiring.”
