PUPILS from Hellifield Community Primary School have created and filmed their own news report - which has won a national schools competition.

Class 3 children entered the You Tube-supported 'LitFilmFest' competition, which involved them writing and filming a news report about a change that they wanted to see in the law.

They decided to focus on the effects of poaching and the ivory trade on elephants, and wrote their own reports, speeches and statements to be included in the film. Class 3 also took charge of the filming and editing, with little input from their teacher.

The completed film won the competition's 'Pupil Parliament' category.

LitFilmFest professional Tim Miles has visited the school to put together a film which will feature on You Tube Kids. And pupils are looking forward to seeing their work on the big cinema screen in Bradford on June 12.

Class 3 teacher Claire Brewster said: "Taking part in this project has been fantastic for developing children’s writing and speaking skills, and it has been a pleasure to see them grow in confidence in their acting abilities. We definitely have some budding actors and politicians among us."
