ANIMAL sales have resumed at Gisburn Auction Mart.

A spokesman for the Animal and Health Plant Agency said: “We have been working closely with Lancashire County Council Trading Standards to ensure animal welfare and biosecurity standards are maintained at Gisburn Auction Market.

“After a number of breaches, the Animal Gathering licence which allowed the market to operate was withdrawn on May 2, 2018.

“The market has since reapplied for a licence, and following a recent inspection, APHA expects to issue a three-month temporary licence providing some immediate remedial work has been completed.”

Last week Gisburn Auction Mart confirmed “sales would go ahead as planned going forward”.

They added: “We apologise for the recent disruptions to sales. We would like to thank all the staff for their hard work and customers of Gisburn Auction Mart for your understanding and support.”
