‘EAT healthily, eat well' will be the message at a special supper staged by the voluntary group Low Carb Skipton in partnership with the town's Rendezvous Hotel.

The event, which will take place at the hotel on Wednesday evening (June 6), will promote low carbohydrate eating and is aimed at diabetics, people with other serious conditions or those who simply want to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Speakers will include a Type 2 diabetic who achieved a huge reduction in his blood glucose levels by adopting a low carb/healthy fats diet and Keith Rathbone, the new chairman of Low Carb Skipton.

Low Carb Skipton founder Verner Wheelock said: "There is now a huge body of scientific evidence showing the negative health effects of eating carbohydrates such as potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.

"A low carb/healthy fats regime is beneficial to all and in the case of diabetics, and those with other serious conditions, it can be life-changing. Type 2 diabetes studies, in particular, point to spectacular lowering of blood glucose levels as a result of this low carb approach."

Rendezvous Hotel senior manager Agata Rusinek said the two-course dinner will include a range of salads and side dishes.

"We aim to show just how delicious low carb food can be," she said.

Ian White, a digital marketing agency director from Ilkley, will deliver a talk at the event explaining why, on learning he had Type 2 diabetes, he immediately decided to treat the condition as naturally as he could.

He will tell how he started eating a much lower carbohydrate diet, with the addition of good fats, and how this allowed him to stay off medications for his diabetes.

Ian went on to lose three stone and says he has achieved consistently lower blood sugar readings which have all been well within the normal, non-diabetic level.

The two-course supper is on Wednesday at 7pm for 7.30pm and is £15 per person. Booking is essential. To reserve a place ring the hotel on 01756 700100.
