ORGANISERS of Carleton Gala felt the weather gods had been a little unkind as more than a few spots of rain fell before the event - after a month of virtually solid May sunshine.

But after some adjustments to the programme - a couple of the booked acts could not perform in damp conditions - the event went ahead amid mostly dry Saturday afternoon weather.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the fun and games, while musical entertainment was provided in the tea-tent by Craven Accordion Orchestra.

Eleven-year-old Emily Smith was crowned Gala Queen, attended by Connie Drewitt, 8, and Megan Richardson, 7. They led the parade around the village riding in Cinderella’s carriage. Fancy dress entrants included Rapunzel - complete with tower - Minnie the Minx, a mini-Ed Sheeran, and St Trinian’s Girls. There were lots of fun races for children during the afternoon, as well as the return of the ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Woman’ contests, won by Mark Earnshaw and Zoe Hill. The dog show attracted plenty of competition, as did the baking and handicraft contests.

Gala organisers said they wished to thank everyone who had had helped to make the event such a success.
