SEVEN organisations in Craven have received a share of the latest round of National Lottery funding which has been awarded to 340 community projects in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The recipient which benefited the greatest in this round was Buckden Village Hall which received £38,000 towards an extension and alterations.

The management team aims to extend the village hall to make more room for community activities and events.

Embsay with Eastby Village Hall was awarded £10,000. The money will be used towards the installation of a new heating system and upgrading the lighting.

Glusburn Community Primary School’s Community Learning Zone also received £10,000 to install all-weather surfacing.

This will provide pupils and local groups with a suitable space for community events and activities

Thornton in Craven Village Hall received £10,000 which will be used towards an extension and disabled access improvements.

Skipton-based Craven Open Door based at Christ Church Hall, in Church Street, was awarded £9,850 to provide a weekly social club at Skipton Youth and Community Centre for young people with learning disabilities, delivering various activities to bring them together and reduce social isolation.

Women’s Holiday Centre Limited, in Horton in Ribblesdale, has been given £9,686 to equip female volunteers with the skills to run the holiday centre, with the aim of reducing unemployment and social isolation and improving confidence.

Over the past 33 years, Horton Women’s Holiday Centre has been providing affordable holidays for thousands of women and children in the UK. A charitable co-operative, the centre was set up in 1981 by a group of women involved in feminism and the women’s liberation movement who wanted to offer affordable holidays with a sliding scale for payments according to income.

Volunteer Connections

The organisation will equip female volunteers with the skills to run the holiday centre, with the aim of reducing unemployment and social isolation and improving confidence. £9,686.00.

The group will use drama to run issue based workshops for youth club members and the wider community. These workshops help young people, particularly those with low educational attainment and who are socially excluded, to become more aware of issues such as antisocial behaviour, drugs and relationships.
