ANOTHER rock-solid turnout of 507 head of cattle was penned for sale at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest fortnightly Wednesday sale.
A total of 441 feeding cattle included 123 young feeding bulls and with the 2017-born entries eligible to be sold as under 16-months and farm assured reducing in number, trade hit a new level. Andy Rigby, of Slaidburn, topped both the under 10-months and under 12-months classes with bulls sold at £1,210 and £1,290, while trade spilled over into the older bulls, with a 21-month-old dairy-bred selling at £1,160 and an average here of £950.
Top prices of £1,360 and £1,300 fell to Limousin-cross bulls from Procters Farm in Slaidburn, with the overall section average hitting £1,061 per head for Continental-cross entries and £808 for natives. Store cattle were forward in slightly tighter numbers at 272 head and strong sorts proved a sharp trade right throughout the sale. Yearling bullocks and nice sorts of heifers also met a good trade.
Bullocks sold to a top of £1,340 for a Limousin-cross from Ellis Bros, of Addingham Moorside, with Kirkless vendor Janet Sheard, of Almondbury, presenting the top price pen of five Limousin-cross bullocks, which each made £1,080.
