A COMMUNITY project which saw a village's gardens opened up to the public for the weekend has been hailed a great success.

Visitors from as far afield as the USA arrived in Langcliffe to join locals as gardens ranging from a tiny courtyard with flower pots, through all manner of private gardens, to the renowned community gardens - complete with beehives - were viewed.

The project started as part of a fundraising drive by members of Langcliffe Church but soon grew to take in the entire community, said one of the organisers, Pam Dagnall.

She added: "It has been hard work, but great fun. We are thinking of having another ‘Open Gardens’ in 2020. We hope even more people will open their gardens then.’’
