A FASCINATING exhibition of photographs taken of Grassington more than a hundred years ago is to take place on Sunday (July 1).

The photographs represent the work of a number of photographers working in and around the area in the late 1800s and early 1900s - and being put on show together in a public exhibition at Church House, Grassington, for the first time.

The exhibition is the result of a labour of love by David Dean, one of the members of the Upper Wharfedale Museum Society (Grassington Folk Museum).

Over the years, the society has received a selection of glass plate photographs from the collections produced by photographers, Woods, the Grimshawe brothers; John Crowther, and his son, Maurice. Some have come from the collection of Craven Museum in Skipton.

Now, images from the plates have been reproduced after being processed by Winpenny Studios of Otley.

Together, the images form a free exhibition of old photographs giving a wonderful insight into life in Grassington and the surrounding area, more than a hundred years ago.

They include a study of Billy Boothman 'village violinist' of Linton, interior shots of Linton Church, World War One soldiers, and many village notables of the past.

The 'once upon a time' exhibition will take place Church House, Grassington on Sunday from 10am.
