RETIRED optician John Exley is the new president of Skipton Craven Rotary Club - which organises the annual Great Skipton Santa Fun Run.

Mr Exley, who joined the club, six years ago, said it was an honour to take on the role of president and to become the club’s figurehead.

“ I realise though, that president is just a title for the figurehead of the club, and thankfully, I have no end of people to give me advice. During the last six years I have had great fun helping the club to do what it does so well - raising monies for charity, and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donates so willingly when my colleagues and I are out collecting with Santa, and when we are collecting in the supermarkets. “

The club organises the annual Santa Fun Run, which this year is due to take place on November 25, and for the second year running, will set off from the High Street, on the same night as the turning on of the Christmas lights.

“The Rotary motto is ‘service above self’ - to me, that is having fun while benefitting others,” he added.
