BOLTON Abbey’s Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa has announced the appointment of a new general manager.

James O’Donnell, who is married with a daughter, was previously hotel manager at Slaley Hall Golf Hotel and Spa in Northumberland and Seaham Hall in Co Durham.

He grew up in in Auchterarder, Scotland, near the Gleneagles estate, where his family was employed, and says the hospitality industry is in his blood.

He said: “In some ways an iconic property, such as The Dev, which has such a loyal following of visitors to the Dales, can be even more of a challenge.

“ Nevertheless, I am looking forward to working with the team here to find ways in which I can help them with their professional development, as well as fine tune the high standards that we offer at the hotel.”

In his new role, James will work on the existing success of the hotel, with emphasis on dining in the hotel’s two restaurants, The Burlington Restaurant and The Brasserie.

Richard Palmer, managing director of The Devonshire Hotels and Restaurant Group, said: “He brings with him a classical hospitality education and a thorough understanding and passion for luxury hospitality. James’ customer facing skills and leadership traits, coupled with a proven track record of commercial success, made him an outstanding candidate.”
