A WOMAN who crashed her car off the road near Skipton was over the drink drive limit, heard magistrates.

Aleksandra Noskowicz, 27, overtook another car on the A629, causing the driver to pull to the side of the road to avoid a collision, the Skipton Court heard on Friday.

The driver saw lights in the distance and when he caught up, saw the other car had 'crashed' into a wall and was in a field, with a man standing next to the passenger door, the court was told.

He called emergency services, police arrived and spoke to both the man and to Noskowicz, both of who denied being the driver.

Following a positive roadside breath test, Noskowicz was taken to police station where she was found to have 130 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80.

Noskowicz, a woman of previous good character, of Castle Street, Skipton, admitted drink driving and driving without due care and attention on May 13.

In mitigation, Keith Blackwell said Noskowicz was from Poland and had lived in the UK for about five years. She worked in manufacturing, and was well thought of by her employer.

Mr Blackwell said Noskowicz had recently split up from her boyfriend, and had drunk a glass of wine to cheer herself up. She had not intended to drive, but had been asked to drive someone home.

She had been concussed after the accident, and had been taken to hospital, although her injuries were not serious.

Noskowicz was banned from driving for 14 months and fined £251. She will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £30. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 14 weeks.
