Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision resulted in five people being taken to hospital on Saturday.

The crash between a white Nissan Juke and a silver Mazda 4x4 occurred on the A65 near to the Green Lane junction, near Ingleton, at around 2.56pm.

The Mazda which was travelling towards Ingleton, collided with the Nissan, which was heading in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Nissan, a woman from Steeton, was airlifted to Preston Royal Infirmary following the collision, along with her 80-year-old mother and 23-year-old son, who were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to Lancaster Hospital by ambulance, along with his eight-year-old passenger.

The extent of their injuries are not known at this time.

The A65 was closed in both directions for a number of hours.

Officers spoke to witnesses at the scene of the collision, however anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage and has not yet spoken to the police is urged to come forward.
