EVEN a five minute spell of rainfall couldn’t dampen the mood during Ingleton’s annual gala as a largely dry day ensured everyone had a great time.

The show, which has been threatened with closure recently after more than six decades of bringing a carnival atmosphere to the town each summer, was a roaring success.

Committee members Janice Howson, Beryl Morphet, Helen Wilson and Walter Tooby, had once again put their heart and soul into the proceedings as Pippa Scott, Hannah Lambert, Victoria Brown, Kelly Robinson and Liz Holman joined the team.

A fantastic line-up of activities and events went ahead, including an It’s A Knockout-style inflatable obstacle course which provided its own spectacle of thrills and spills, children’s races, a samba band and giant puppet.

Helper Liz Holman said: “A massive “thank you” to everyone who joined us on the day, Wow, the community spirit sure did shine through.”

Beryl Morphet added: “The new members have brought a breath of fresh air to the group and uplifted all our spirits.”

A Facebook page has been created showcasing all the events on the day and will eventually have a time line of all the queens over the years.

People can share their own photographs to the page with dates.

Resident Jen Lishman has offered the use of her vacant shop window to display some photographs over the years and a new display with this year’s gala queen, Olivia Howson, with be up soon.
