BLASTING off next month will be this year’s Fallfest with a host of events for all ages in Glusburn.

The annual festival, based around Glusburn Institute Arts and Community Centre, will run from Friday to Sunday, September 21 to 23.

Flagship event of the weekend will be a tribute to the singer behind 1970s hit Space Oddity. David Live is a David Bowie tribute act hailed as “fantastic” by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans.

Fallfest spokesman David Seaward said: “David and his band will take you on a mind-blowing tour-de-force across Bowie’s musical genius. Local singer/songwriter Callum Spencer will kick-off the evening. His renown as a performing artist on the national music scene is growing apace and it’s great to have him on board.”

David said Fallfest would feature a fantastic array of events, offering something for everyone.

He said: “This year Fallfest has a first, in that it has secured the involvement of seven local primary schools. The ‘launch pad’ will be the Great Fallfest Sing Off, a free event with the schools on the Friday morning. The individual school choirs, up to 20 strong, will each sing David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ plus a song of their choice.”

Schools will also be building four-foot rockets which will be left at key locations around Cross Hills and Glusburn to form the basis for a Rocket Trail Walk. They will also take part in a 1.5-mile cross-country race.

David said that following last year’s successful Beer and Gin Fest, run by Kath Thornton of Bronte Bars & Events, the event would again spread across the full weekend with 16 beers and more than 30 gins.

He added: “Friday evening will host Falling Stars Theatre Company in the play The Last Resort, a hilarious and thought-provoking look at a day in the life of the fictional seaside town of Ferryton-on –Sea; bringing to life the humour, pathos, belly laughs and tears of the seaside town as we all remember it.”

Saturday will offer an eclectic family day the well-established Fallfest Five Fell race for adults; Happy Yoga; Funky Flower workshop; street food; Junior Bake-Off; dog show; bouncy castle; Chloe’s Rocket Trail Walk; and a junior cross country race.

David added: “Saturday and Sunday sees a continuation of the Beer and Gin Fest with an Open Mic session for singers/poets/comedians.”
