SKIPTON Girls’ High School students have achieved a great set of results in the face of the national challenge facing all A Level students, with the return to linear exams and the second year roll-out of reformed qualifications, the school's headteacher has said.
In the headline attainment measures, the school is celebrating over 41 per cent of all grades at A*/A and one in three students achieved one or more A* grades.
Five students secured a full suite of A* grades with 24 girls, in total achieving all A or A* grades for every subject.
A spokeswoman said that, contrary to the national demise of the arts and languages in state secondary schools, the school has an outstanding reputation for retaining and delivering arts and modern foreign language education. This year was no different, with these subjects shining through - 88 per cent of A Level Art and Design grades at A*/A, 100 per cent A*/B in French and an A* in A Level Music for Izzy Wood, who was awarded the BBC Inspire Young Musician of the Year 2018.
With a significant cohort of students joining the school from other secondary schools, 2018 results show that students ‘new to the school’ have achieved exceptionally well and made outstanding progress from their starting points.
Executive Headteacher Jenn Plews said: "A Level results day is one of the highlights of the school year. The class of 2018 has excelled. This year we are grappling with the second year of reformed linear A Levels with assessment by exam as opposed to coursework and caution should be taken when comparing year on year results.
"As ever, our students have a remarkable work ethic and it is wonderful to see them flourish so brilliantly at A Level. It has been a real privilege to share their success and to have the chance to wish them all the best in the next stage of their lives. I know they will go on to even greater successes.
"Today's results demonstrate that Skipton Girls’ High School is a great Sixth Form of choice for students within the local region where young people experience first-class teaching and unwavering support."
