YESTERDAY was momentous day for Steeton, and Roy Mason’s side marked it with a hard-earned win.

The Chevrons won their first home game on the non-league ladder at their new home of Cougar Park after stepping up to Hallmark Security League Division One North at the start of the season.

It was a narrow 1-0 victory over AFC Blackpool but a satisfying one, with Andy Briggs’ header converting a fourth- minute corner.

Silsden were also at home, in the Premier Division, and also enjoyed a win – their 2-0 victory over Ashton Athletic bringing Danny Forrest’s side their first maximum of the new season.

The Cobbydalers led 2-0 at the break after Niall Sultan and Lee Spires had both found the target late in the first half.

Something had to give at Manse Lane as hosts Knaresborough Town and visitors Liversedge both had 100 per cent starts in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

It was Sedge who prevailed to consolidate their leadership of the early table, but only after a five-goal thriller that could have gone either way.

Knaresborough edged in front when Rob Worrall’s shot, following a good move in the 35th minute, took a deflection. That was the only goal of the first half, and Sedge didn’t equalise until past the hour, Red Bates reacting quickest as the ball ran free in a packed area.

The visitors then seized the initiative as Joe Walton steered the ball into the bottom corner after another good move by Sedge.

The home side were far from done, and parity was restored six minutes from time when Dan Thirkell headed home following a corner.

The game was settled by a penalty, and it was Sedge who profited from the award in the penultimate minute, with Sam Akeroyd netting the resulting spot-kick.

Albion Sports had to come from a goal down to claim a point from the visit of Bottesford Town.

The visitors took an early lead when Jack McMenemy broke the deadlock in the ninth minute, but Sam Denton made it 1-1 midway through the second half.

Thackley also banked a draw from a stalemate but their home meeting with Barton Town remained goalless.

There was no joy for Eccleshill United as they went down 1-0 at home to Worksop Town.

The game’s only goal came when a poor defensive clearance dropped kindly for the visitors, and Matt Sykes netted a well-struck volley.

Campion lost 2-0 at Selby Town in Division One.

The Robins’ Liam Flanagan bagged himself a brace, with goals in the eighth and 86th minutes.
