GRASSINGTON and District Horticultural Society's 41st annual show on Saturday was given a boost by an increase in the number of quality exhibits.
"What a difference a year has made to the Grassington Horticultural Show," said chairman Philip Johnson. "Last year found members struggling to find exhibits to fill the tables, whilst this year the stewards were struggling to find extra tables to accommodate the number of quality exhibits.
"In several of the adult classes the standard of the exhibits was so high that the judges took the unusual step of not only awarding first, second and third certificates but Highly Commended ones also."
For the second year running, Glenda Priestnall won the Grassington Challenge Cup, awarded for the most points in show.
She was also presented with a Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal, the first time the Grassington society has been able to award it due to their affiliation with the Royal Horticultural Society.
The society also thanked judges Mike Cunningham (flowers), Sue Fairhurst (floral art) and David Allinson (vegetables) for their contribution in making the summer show a success.
