INJURED service veterans joined business teams from all over the country at a record breaking charity event at Skipton Golf Club.

The seventh annual event for the On Course Foundation, organised by Ilkley man

David Rasche, raised an amazing more than £26,000, with more than 80 players taking part.

It was the first time the event, which sees injured veterans joining entered teams, took place on the course, which has been remodelled following the completion of the Skipton Flood Alleviation scheme.

Some of those taking part described the course as a 'wonderful challenge' and with 'great views'.

John Simpson, the charity’s founder, spoke about a few of the injured On Course Foundation members who attended, including Gregg Stevenson from Foulridge.

Gregg, who has just qualified for the Paralympic rowing squad, was also in one of the winning teams of the day.

Former Gurkha, Hari Budha Magar, a double leg amputee recently climbed the 6,476 metre high Mera Peak in Nepal, and plans to be the first double amputee to climb Everest in 2020.

Another of the charity’s successes at the event was Mike Browne, who five years ago had never played golf.

He is now a professional competing on the challenge tour.

The auction in the evening raised a fantastic £16,000 with participants particularly keen to bid for the On Course anniversary event at Windsor Castle, the Simpson Cup at St Andrews and four balls at Gleneagles, Royal St. George’s, Royal Liverpool, Royal Blackheath and Sunningdale.
