A BARNOLDSWICK couple is celebrating their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
Roy and Edith Redfearn were married at Zion Chapel in Settle on September 20, 1958, and today will celebrate their anniversary by spending the day together.
Roy, 86, worked in the assembly department at Rolls Royce in Barnoldswick for many years before later becoming one of the first employees to join engineering firm Euravia, which is now based at Kelbrook. He overhauled helicopter engines there and retired in 2000.
Edith, 84, was born at Settle but grew up at Turf Gate Farm in Hebden.
“It was all hands on deck when I was young,” she said. “We used to plough the fields with horses and there was always work to do.”
Roy and Edith, who lived at Gargrave, Bracewell and Earby before settling in Barnoldswick, have two children, Graham and Karen, and one grandson.
The couple enjoy walking, and Roy said: “We’ve always liked to get out into the Dales and walk. We’re very much Dales people, but one of our favourite walks is around Fewston Reservoir. Now we walk locally.”
