POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an accident yesterday in which a pedestrian was seriously injured.

The 51-year-man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary following the incident, in Station Road, Steeton.

He was involved in a collision with a blue Suzuki Vitara car, which was travelling in the direction of the Steeton/Silsden roundabout.

Police, paramedics and a Yorkshire Ambulance Service clinical supervisor attended the accident, which happened shortly after 8.15am.

The casualty was taken by ambulance to the LGI major trauma centre, with serious – but non-life-threatening – leg injuries.

The road was closed and traffic diverted.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicle's movements immediately prior to the accident, to come forward.
