UP-TO-DATE information will be given about a controversial Silsden road plan during a public meeting on Thursday night.

A Bradford Council highways officer is expected to attend the gathering at Silsden Town Hall at 7pm, organised by councillor Adrian Naylor.

Cllr Naylor has urged townspeople to go along to gain accurate information about the proposed road connecting Bolton Road with a potential housing development in fields at Hawber Cote.

The controversial road, which would cross several fields and footpaths, is also intended to provide an alternative access to the planned new Silsden Primary School.

A revised version of the road’s route was submitted to the council on September 18, showing it connecting to Hawber Cote Lane.

Cllr Naylor, who sits on Bradford and Silsden councils, organised the meeting in the light of hundreds of objections to the application.

He said he wanted to “debunk myths” about the plans so that townspeople knew exactly where the road would go and what is was designed to achieve.

Objections from Silsden residents continued to appear on the council’s planning website this month, along with an ecological appraisal and a second biodiversity report.

Council biodiversity officer Miriam Baines advised councillors to object to the road plan pending further information about the net gain for biodiversity, and the potential impact on foraging birds.
