RADIO Airedale is looking for budding broadcasters to help them re launch after a five-year break.

The popular station at Airedale Hospital was taken off the air while technical improvements were made to the sound.

But it hopes to be back on November 5 when it will broadcast live to at least four wards.

Aaron McCarter, section leader for Radio Airedale, said: "We will be broadcasting 24 hours a day and will be looking for people to come and get involved with producing programmes for the station.

"Anyone who has any strong opinions or has any particular interests, like gardening, which they want to produce a documentary about, should get in contact.

"The point of hospital radio is to be a patient's friend at their bedside, because some people are in hospital for a long period of time and 10 days in the hospital can seem like forever.

"If you can hear a mix of music it will make the day seem a little bit shorter," he said.

Radio Airedale hopes to broadcast live versions of articles from the Craven Herald as part of its programme line up.

It will also broadcast live bands playing in the studio.

It has received funding from The Friends of Airedale, which donated £32,000, and PACE, which gave £500 and a new computer to get the station back on the airwaves.
