Six Settle College pupils will be bringing some Christmas cheer to a local hospice.

Charlotte Lambert, Gemma Tennant, Emily Redhead, Sami Beresford, Rosie Wane and Ashleigh Wood are planning to sing carols to raise money for St John's Hospice, in Lancaster.

The 15-year-olds came up with the fundraising scheme after the hospice helped Emily's grandfather after his wife died and cared for the grandmother of a close friend.

Charlotte said: "What we are planning to do is go carol singing around the village of Ingleton, where many of us live. We aren't just singing carols, we are dressing up in seasonal fancy dress - as Santas and elves. With all the sponsorship that we collect and any donations we get, we are hoping to raise £250 for St John's Hospice. It is a place close to our hearts."

The girls aim to do their carol singing next week and have funded outfits from their own pockets.

I am very impressed at these young girls and how how much money they are going to raise for there chosen charity. I feel that these girls should be very proud of themselves and what they are going to do for such a good cause is outstanding and i hope they will do more of these fundraising events in the future.I feel that Emily Redhead and Gemma Tennant look amazing in their costumes. The other three look very nice but not as amzing as the other two. I'm quite supprised at these comments. These are kind and willing people, who arn't also being really generous in helping the charity but giving the school good credit to. This shows how willing and concerned students from settle college are. yours faithfully Linol Edwards.

I do agree with Linol. These are students wich will be recognised for their efforts and achievments. I am truly sorry that the students couldn't of had their pictures taken at the school as we were informed in short notice. But I can see they have made tremendous effort in making time to have this wonderful picture taken. And I am so glad to call these 5 girls students of Settle College, North Yorkshire. I have noticed as I have arrived at this school that all the students are willing to do their part for charity. Yours faithfully William

I was only searching through the news papers, on the internet and this article jumped out at me. I follow god myself so I do believe alot in charity and good will. I like the way these are average students from a normal school. And by linking the festive spirit to a charity event you should be proud of what you've done. Lewis xx

I think what all of these girls are doing is great! Just shows that the youth of today isn't all that people tend to call them (hanging around on the streests smoking and drinking) and that some of them actually care about others in the community. Well done girls and I hope you raise a lot more than you were hoping for.

I also hope you raise more than you want to and i think abuse towards these girls isn't fair. They all look Kind and look normal people who are wanting to help the community give yourselves a pat on the bck children hope it all goes well.
