School closure recommended

Education bosses are being recommended to publish closure notices on Low Bentham Primary School.

Residents were given until March 14 to make representations after a public meeting at the school in February.

The meeting heard numbers at the school had fallen so much it was not economically viable. Parents had hoped classes could carry on until a new primary school could be built for both Low and High Bentham. But North Yorkshire County Council has had problems finding a site.

The council's executive committee is to meet on Tuesday. If closure notices are issued, a further consultation will run for six weeks. If the proposal goes through, the school will close from the end of the summer term.
