A Silsden club has been given the go-ahead to stay open until the early hours, despite opposition from neighbours.

The Cobbydale Social Club, on Hayhills Road, has varied its licence so it can open until 2am on Saturday and Sundays.

Bradford councillors conditionally approved the application.

The club will open until 11pm from Mondays to Wednesdays and until midnight on Thursday and Sundays.

Objections were made by Trevor Lee and Yvonne Stones, who live in nearby Bridge Street.

Mrs Stones said life at the weekend was already miserable due to constant shouting and swearing by young club users.

She said: "I have learned to put up with being woken up with taxi doors slamming and car radios going at midnight.

"In summer I can't have my windows open because of the noise. As for having family or friends sit outside with me, I would die of embarrassment with the foul language."

Neighbour Mr Lee said glasses and bottles were regularly left on his garden wall and cigarette ends were dumped.

He said: "I should be able to enjoy my weekends. This club is just too close to our homes."

Vanessa Waterhouse, from the Cobbydale club, told Bradford's licensing panel that the club was family-run.

She said groups of youths had been moved from outside the club, and police and Pubwatch were aware of the situation. Mrs Waterhouse said teenagers were discouraged from loitering in the doorway.

Councillors approved the application on condition people did not drink outside after 8pm, Mrs Waterhouse patrolled outside to ensure noise could not be heard and registered door supervisors were employed at the club from 11pm, whenever entertainment went on after midnight.
