Silsden Town Council is calling for a 20mph limit on several streets.

Coun Andrew Phillips proposed the council should consider requesting a 20mph limit on Woodside Road, which he considered dangerous.

He said: "It is not just me, it is many people. Everyone on the street is angered that it is not safe."

But Coun Alan Edwards pointed out that the town council had already asked Bradford Council's highways department for 20mph speed limits outside Hothfield Junior School and Aire View Infants School.

He said: "Surely, if people drive sensibly there is no need for 20mph limit signs on those roads. We should have 20mph limits only on roads outside schools."

But Coun Chris Atkinson said there was no harm in asking Bradford Council for the signs. "Put one or two names on the list and you might not get them. Put 100 on the list and they might look at it and say OK, you can have one or two,'" he said.

The council voted in favour of requesting the speed limit signs by four votes to two.
