Olympic gold medallist Andy Hodge has already set about promoting his sport of rowing.

The 27-year-old coxless four winner at Beijing is to honour his promise to meet young up-and-coming rowers at Bradford Amateur Rowing Club.

He has pledged to visit the club which uses a stretch of the River Aire at Saltaire as a thank you to club members who passionately cheered him on in the Chinese capital.

Andy, of Hebden, met four members of the club at a party held for GB rowing supporters after the race.

He signed the club’s Union flag which has visited three previous Olympic regattas.

“I was very proud to sign the flag. The supporters from Bradford gave me so much support the least I can do is repay them and visit them,” he said.

The club attracts people from throughout the Aire Valley and will be holding a competition regatta with rowers from all over the country next Saturday, September 13.

People interested in joining should telephone 01274 531859.
