A Hellifield farmhouse can be extended into an adjoining barn.

Craven District Council’s planning committee approved the scheme at Tenley Farm, south of the A65.

And members said another barn at the site could be converted into a holiday cottage.

In a report, officers said the farmhouse had a modest two bedrooms but by extending the living accommodation into an attached stone barn, a five-bedroom home could be created.

“The proposed scheme of conversion is considered sympathetic to the traditional nature of the barn,” they said.

They were also satisfied the conversion of the second barn would be in keeping.

Their report concluded: “The proposed barn conversions will result in the retention of traditional agricultural buildings at Tenley Farm. The proposed creation of a holiday unit will add to the range of tourist facilities in the area to the benefit of the rural economy.”
