Council urged to approve Brightenber wind farm

Craven councillors are being urged to approve plans for a wind farm near Gargrave.

Despite 600 letters of objection and strong opposition from several organisations, including the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, the scheme for five 100-metre (320ft) turbines at Brightenber Hill has been recommended for approval.

At next Tuesday’s special meeting at Aireville School of Craven District Council’s Planning Committee, councillors will be advised to take note of Craven’s renewable energy targets and approve the plan.

But they will be told in a report that approval should be conditional on applicants EnergieKontor paying up to £10,000 for a television reception survey and for investigations into any problems experienced by residents within a three kilometre (1.8 mile) radius for up to a year after the turbines are built.
