A modern twist has been added to the historic journey along the Settle-Carlisle railway line.
From Tuesday, passengers will be able to download a free audio commentary on to their MP3 players, which will detail their journey along the 72-mile route in all its historic glory.
In what is thought to be a first for a train journey, journalist and BBC Radio 4 presenter Mark Holdstock has teamed up with Northern Rail and the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle line (FoSCL) to produce the commentaries.
The task involved writing the text and timing it to fit both the northbound and southbound journeys.
As well as information about Settle and Carlisle stations, there is a total of four hours of carefully timed recordings.
The audio guides will be available from the FoSCL or Northern Rail’s websites from Tuesday.
They are also available pre-loaded on to MP3 players, which will be available to buy at Settle and Carlisle station shops.
The launch day coincides with a ceremony to unveil a memorial bench to Settle-Carlisle supporter Robin Sisson, at Appleby.
